Here at DERMagic and Mendota Pet, we are very particular about where we source our organic ingredients. Today, we're taking a look at four of our favorite natural oils and the benefits they have to offer our pets' skin.
Sesame Seed Oil
Sesame Seed oil is often referred to as "The King of Oils". These tiny little seeds that we love to snack on once in awhile packs a mighty punch!
Commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine, sesame seed oil is processed by grounding up the seeds and extracting the lightweight, clear oil that you're accustomed to seeing.
Sesame seed oil is naturally high in linoleic acid and offers antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that no other oil can offer!
All of our oils arrive in recyclable BPA-free plastic containers, which helps us in our goal to create safe, environmentally-friendly manufacturing processes from the first bar to the last lotion.
You'll find Sesame Seed oil in our Hot Spot Salve, Cell Restoration Creme, and Skin Rescue Lotion.
Sunflower Seed Oil
Pressed from organic sunflower seeds, this light, bright, golden oil provides nourishing benefits to skin. This golden tridoshic oil helps to soothe and calm even the most irritated skin.
If you have an interest in essential oils, sunflower seed oil is the perfect way to dilute EOs for blending into your favorite combination.
Remember, essential oils can be toxic to use on or around pets. So exercise caution and seek guidance from a professional before using on your own.
The sunflower seed oil we use is pressed from USDA-certified organic herbs that are sustainably sourced and fairly-traded. These practices are important to us, our pets and to our natural environment!
You'll find sunflower seed oil in all of our solid Shampoo and Conditioner bars.
Whole Leaf Aloe Vera Gel
How much do we love aloe vera? Enough to spend years scouring the states for the best supplier!
Our aloe vera gel is sourced from the fertile Rio Grande Valley of Texas from a facility that is known for market-leading innovation and patented processes that result in the highest quality, 100% natural aloe vera gel.
Our aloe vera has been certified by the International Aloe Science Council (IASC) for verified aloe content.
As you probably know, aloe vera is one of our favorite topics of conversation! We've written a few posts on the topic, as well.
Learn more about the components of Aloe Vera here, and you can see why they call Aloe Vera the "plant of immortality".
You'll find aloe vera in nearly every product in our line-up of skin care for animals!
Lanolin
Lanolin is an oil produced by sheep that is found in their shorn wool. This incredible oil is responsible for keeping their coats waterproof and deodorized. This oil is extracted from the shorn wool (no sheep are harmed!), then cleaned and processed into the final product for the health and beauty industries.
We love lanolin because it is non-comedogenic (it won’t clog pores) and it is one of the best emollients around.
Emollients work by creating a layer of protection on top of the skin to draw water into the outer layer of skin. It is essentially a "barrier" between the outside world and your skin.
This makes it ideal for treating dry, rough skin (like what you'll find on dogs suffering from Black Skin Disease or Alopecia X).
Lanolin’s unique texture helps form a protective film, which helps treatment to stick to the skin -- especially wounds like hot spots.
You'll find lanolin in our Hot Spot Salve and Skin Rescue Lotion.
