Alopecia X: How to Use DERMagic Skin Rescue Lotion
DERMagic's Skin Rescue Lotion is designed treat and provide immediate relief for scratchy, itchy skin in pets that result from many types of skin conditions, including:
- specific types of mange
- yeast
- alopecia X
- black skin disease
- and much, much more.
How to Use Skin Rescue Lotion
1. Start with a clean dog.
We recommend using a bar of our organic Skin Rescue Shampoo Bar, which has sulfur florets and neem oil.
This shampoo bar is very effective at exfoliating and deep cleansing, and it rinses very cleanly.
It is also a strong anti-fungal (without being harsh), and is pH-balanced for dogs. It’s not healthy for dogs to be bathed too often, and especially not while suffering from Black Skin Disease (BSD).
We suggest bathing once, then once again in seven days, and thereafter only twice per month.
2. Use our ultra-conditioning conditioner bars.
Our solid conditioner bars are formulated to help smooth and condition your pet's fur. This part of the treatment is optional, but we think you and your pets will enjoy the soft, beautiful fur!
3. Apply DERMagic Skin Rescue Lotion
Massage the Skin Rescue Lotion deeply into the skin until it absorbs. Apply lotion to all affected areas, whether it's black skin or bald.
- For the first 1 week, we suggest using the lotion twice daily.
- For the next 2-12 weeks, use the lotion once daily.
Don't use too much lotion - use just enough to cover the entire affected area. This product is formulated to be effective, so "more is not better". We don't want it to go to waste! It should be used approximately like hand lotion would be used… not too much, just enough to do the job and to absorb fully into the skin.
4. Cover the affected area.
DERMagic Skin Rescue Lotion works better on your dog, not on the sofa or carpet or licked off.
To help keep it on your dog, we recommend keeping the area covered. This also helps protect the skin from the sun's harmful rays as well as helping to reduce licking.
For larger dogs, this can be done with an old tee shirt. If your dog is very small, we found that an infant onesie (like these from Amazon) is an ideal way to keep the body area covered.
There is nothing in the lotion that can harm an animal if ingested, but it only works if it stays on the dog and not on the carpet or sofa!
Never Shave Your Pets
Any remaining hair should be clipped short, but not shaved. Shaving your dog's fur can introduce allow fungus and mites to burrow under the skin and should be avoided entirely, especially in double-coated dogs like Pomeranians.
- Note: If surgical shaving is necessary for any reason, for any breed of dog or cat, we recommend applying the lotion to the shaved area daily for a few days afterward to prevent fungal infection and possible permanent hair loss.
How Long Does it Take to Work?
It really depends on how far progressed the disease is, and how determined you are to follow the process.
Most pets experience relief from itchy, dry skin immediately. You should see a look of relief in their eyes upon the first application of the Skin Rescue Lotion.
This process takes patience and persistence, but it will work.
You should see initial results in about 4 weeks.
When black skin begins to slough off, do not try to rush it by "hard brushing" or by "trying to peel it". Let it fall off at its own pace, much like a scab. The new skin underneath needs time to heal itself and will push off the black skin when it’s ready to do so.
Full recovery can happen in 3 months, but may take up to 6 months.
We know you will be amazed with the Skin Rescue Lotion and you'll be relieved to know it also kills yeast:
- in the feet/paws:
- symptoms may include: licking and rust-colored hair between toes. Simply massage a small amount into areas around pads.
- in the ears:
- Massage a small amount applied with fingertip and massaged downward into the ear canal daily for a few days.
Stay focused, remember to apply it daily, and keep the faith. Your pet's healthy skin will return and their fur will return to its healthy, shiny luster!
